Resellers Nab PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition Preorders, Post on eBay for $4K+

-

If you’re desperate to buy Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro 30th Anniversary edition, you may need to take out a loan.

The limited-edition console went on sale early Thursday morning for $999.99, but interested consumers had to go through a long digital queue. We waited over an hour, but it quickly sold out as resellers also tried to snag the rare product.

Some of those scalpers have since put the console on eBay, with prices topping $4,000. As evidence, they’ve included their sales receipt since the device won’t ship until Nov. 21.

One bold reseller is trying to sell the console for $10,000. But according to eBay’s Terapeak tool, no one has ponied up for any of the listings. Meanwhile, other resellers have listed their units starting at $3,000.

The scalpers are banking that desperate Sony fans will pay up considering the company only manufactured 12,300 PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary units. (The 12,300 number represents the month and date for the first-gen PlayStation console launch, which initially occurred in Japan in 1994 before the US release in the following year.)

Despite the presence of scalpers, it looks like some consumers were still able to nab the product early on Thursday morning through Sony’s website. The other good news is that Sony also kicked off preorders for the PS5 Pro on the same day, and it looks like the company still has units available for sale via the PlayStation Direct site.

The PS5 Pro officially launches on Nov. 7, but the product’s $699 price and the curious decision to remove the disc drive, may have turned off some of the demand. Stay tuned for our review.
